Biography

Mark Slater is a dedicated Patient and Public Partner for CERSI-AI, where he brings the public perspective to the forefront of AI research and policy in healthcare. His insights help ensure that patient and public voices are meaningfully integrated into the development and deployment of AI technologies.

In parallel, Mark serves as the System Administrator for the Particle Physics Group Computing Facilities at University of Birmingham, overseeing a robust infrastructure that supports both local and global scientific research. He also administers a Grid Site used by major experiments to process data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Beyond system administration, Mark provides significant expert computing support for the operations and development of the LHCb experiment.

Mark is also passionate about education. He contributes to undergraduate computing labs for second-year students, and co-leads a postgraduate course on C++ programming, helping to shape the next generation of computational physicists and engineers.

We are delighted to have Mark involved in CERSI‑AI, where his contributions help ground our work in real-world needs and enhance its relevance and impact. His involvement also fosters greater trust and transparency in AI-enabled healthcare innovation
